ONT у форматі SFP відкриває додаткові можливості для використання технології GPON у різних топологіях та схемах підключення. ONT цього типу може використовуватися для підключення L2/L3 комутаторів, демаркаційних пристроїв формату EDD, TDMoIP пристроїв, індустріальних комутаторів та інших пристроїв. Перевагою є те, що ONT як джерело живлення використовує живлення пристрою, яке вона підключена. ONT відповідає стандартам ITU-T G.984/G.988, відповідно є сумісною з більшістю OLT інших виробників.
